Proposition 8's lies fall apart in court!

Official Transcripts - Prop 8 Trial Tracker - FireDogLake

That is the FULL TEXT of Proposition 8.

No children, no schools, no churches mentioned ANYWHERE.

All it does is limit the right to marry to one privileged group.

AND THAT'S WRONG.

VOTE NO ON 8.

Also read an excerpt from the court ruling:

Finally, affording same-sex couples the opportunity to obtain the designation of marriage will not impinge upon the religious freedom of any religious organization, official, or any other person; no religion will be required to change its religious policies or practices with regard to same-sex couples, and no religious officiant will be required to solemnize a marriage in contravention of his or her religious beliefs. (Cal. Const., art. I, ยง 4.)

And the California Constitution, Article I, Section 4:

Free exercise and enjoyment of religion without discrimination or preference are guaranteed. This liberty of conscience does not excuse acts that are licentious or inconsistent with the peace or safety of the State. The Legislature shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.

Prop 8 will not affect religious freedom at all.

Considering some churches ALLOW gay marriage, Prop 8 is actually TAKING AWAY religious freedom.

AND THAT'S WRONG.

The school curriculum question is tougher, because you have to dig into the California Education Code, which is pretty thick. But you can find what you're looking for:

51101. (a) Except as provided in subdivision (d), the parents and guardians of pupils enrolled in public schools have the right and should have the opportunity, as mutually supportive and respectful partners in the education of their children within the public schools, to be informed by the school, and to participate in the education of their children, as follows:

(1) Within a reasonable period of time following making the request, to observe the classroom or classrooms in which their child is enrolled or for the purpose of selecting the school in which their child will be enrolled in accordance with the requirements of any intradistrict or interdistrict pupil attendance policies or programs.

...

(8) To examine the curriculum materials of the class or classes in which their child is enrolled.

51890. (a) For the purposes of this chapter, "comprehensive health education programs" are defined as all educational programs offered in kindergarten and grades 1 to 12, inclusive, in the public school system, including in-class and out-of-class activities designed to ensure that:

(1) Pupils will receive instruction to aid them in making decisions in matters of personal, family, and community health, to include the following subjects:

...

(D) Family health and child development, including the legal and financial aspects and responsibilities of marriage and parenthood.

51913. The plan for a comprehensive health education program shall include a statement setting forth the district's educational program for health education on a districtwide basis. The State Board of Education shall establish standards and criteria to be used in the evaluation of plans submitted by school districts. The standards and criteria for review and approval of plans by the State Board of Education shall include, but not be limited to, provision for:

...

(g) Evaluation of the program by the governing board of the school district with the assistance of administrators, teachers, parents, pupils, and participants in the program from the community.

51914. No plan shall be approved by the State Board of Education unless it determines that the plan was developed with the active cooperation of parents, community, and teachers, in all stages of planning, approval, and implementation of the plan.

51933. (a) School districts may provide comprehensive sexual health education, consisting of age-appropriate instruction, in any kindergarten to grade 12, inclusive, using instructors trained in the appropriate courses.

(b) A school district that elects to offer comprehensive sexual health education pursuant to subdivision (a), whether taught by school district personnel or outside consultants, shall satisfy all of the following criteria:

(1) Instruction and materials shall be age appropriate.

...

(6) Instruction and materials shall encourage a pupil to communicate with his or her parents or guardians about human sexuality.

(7) Instruction and materials shall teach respect for marriage and committed relationships.

51938. A parent or guardian of a pupil has the right to excuse their child from all or part of comprehensive sexual health education, HIV/AIDS prevention education, and assessments related to that education...

51939. (a) A pupil may not attend any class in comprehensive sexual education or HIV/AIDS prevention education, or participate in any anonymous, voluntary, and confidential test, questionnaire, or survey on pupil health behaviors and risks, if the school has received a written request from the pupil's parent or guardian excusing the pupil from participation.

Schools are not required to teach about health and families.

Curriculum about marriage is limited to legal and financial aspects.

Parents have the right to remove their child from such instruction.

Prop 8 will not change this.
